Roof repairs · Christchurch
We fix roofs. We don’t upsell them.
If your roof has life left in it, a repair is the right call and we’ll say so. Most of our repairs run $400–$1,500 including GST, we can usually get to you within 3 working days, and every repair carries a 2-year guarantee.

The usual suspects
What we repair most
- Leaks. The stain on the ceiling is almost never under the hole. Water runs down the underlay and along purlins before it drops, so finding the entry point is the actual skill. We chase it with a hose test if we have to.
- Lifted and flapping sheets. The nor’wester’s signature move. The fix is rarely just screwing it back down; if the fixings pulled, the timber underneath usually needs attention or the same sheet lifts in the next blow.
- Rusted valleys and laps. Valleys carry the most water and rust first. Swapping a valley is a normal Tuesday for us and a fraction of re-roofing money.
- Flashings. Around chimneys, skylights, and where roof meets wall. Failed flashings cause more leaks than failed roofing, and they’re the thing bargain operators re-use.
- Cracked and slipped tiles, crumbling ridge pointing. Concrete tile roofs from the 60s–80s are all reaching the same age together. We keep second-hand tiles in the yard for the profiles you can’t buy new any more.
- Old repairs done badly. Silicone smears, tape patches, and stray lead from the post-quake rush. We take them off and do it properly, with photos of both.
- Sagging or leaking spouting. More on spouting here →
Honesty cuts both ways
When we’ll talk you out of a repair
When the maths is bad
The repair bill would top about 25% of a re-roof. Throwing $4,000 at forty-year-old iron is bad maths and we won’t take that job without saying so.
When patching is a subscription
The steel is so far gone that walking on it to fix one spot damages ten more. Once rust is through at the laps across multiple sheets, patching is a subscription, not a fix.
When what you need is paint
The coating is tired but the steel is sound, in which case what you want is a repaint, not a repair, and it’s a different (smaller) number than you feared.
Either way you get photos and the reasoning, and the decision stays yours.
All including GST
What it costs
Every roof is different, but after a few thousand repairs the ranges are pretty stable.
| Repair | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Re-fix lifted sheets (one area, incl. timber check) | $400–$750 |
| Cracked/slipped tiles and ridge re-pointing (one area) | $450–$900 |
| Chimney or skylight flashing | $600–$1,300 |
| Leak trace and fix | $500–$1,200 |
| Valley replacement (per valley) | $700–$1,500 |
We quote the exact number after we’ve been on the roof, and the quote is the invoice.
Small leak? Don’t wait for spring.
A drip you can see means insulation and timber you can’t see are already wet, and Christchurch winters are the wrong season for “she’ll be right.” By September a $600 fix has a mould problem attached. If water’s coming in right now, ring 03 741 0227 and we’ll get it made safe, usually same day.
